It must be paranormal. Have you ever wondered if your chiropractor has magical fingers? I’m not talking about how much better you feel after an adjustment. I’m talking about how chiropractors can so adeptly run their fingers over your spine and find the misalignments… without needing to know where or if it hurts.
After almost 12 years as a chiropractor I still marvel at the skill I have developed in knowing just where to adjust. I should really give credit to my brain, it does all of the computing. Being a chiropractor is now second nature to me. The more you do something, the more neurons in your brain are assigned to the task. Essentially the connections in your brain fire automatically for that activity. Adjusting your spine to me is like playing the piano for a professional pianist.
As I palpate your spine, observe your posture, feel muscle tension, see your leg length discrepancy and sense temperature changes in your skin my brain calculates what all that means. My brain integrates that information with the knowledge of your spine gained from your chiropractic x-rays and tells me how to adjust to create more balance in your spinal system. Chiropractic really is as much as art as it is a science.
Hopefully you already realize that subluxations (misalignments) are not always painful. But they are dangerous as they will cause damage to your joints and interfere with your nerve signal transmission. We are specially trained to find all subluxations, even the “silent” not-painful ones of which you are unaware. Often times we will come upon a spot in your spine that you didn’t know was tender until we touched it. “Is that a bruise?” You ask. “Nope, it’s a subluxation.” We respond. This spinous process tenderness is a neurological phenomenon that happens with some misalignments. It is a sign that you are subluxated. Yes, it is a good thing you’re here.
Remember to get your weekly chiropractic tune-up…. “need it or not.” Just like you go to the dentist when your teeth don’t hurt, you should go to your chiropractor even when your spine doesn’t hurt!
