Oil Changes

This morning my daughter woke up and showed me her arm, the small scratch from yesterday all but gone.  She proclaimed excitedly, “My body really does heal itself!”   To which I reply, “Yes, sweetheart, it really does.”  At that moment I think, Gosh, my child of all children should NOT be surprised by healing.

I guess it’s easy for any one of us to lose sight of just how miraculous our body is.  I think it is also easy to lose sight of how important giving our body regular T.L.C. is to our longevity and quality of life.

I have a reliable 2004 Volvo now with about 180,000 miles on it.  I have taken it for its regular oil -changes, tire rotations, alignments and what-ever-it-is that the nice people at JB Auto do on those how-ever-many-miles check-ups.  To say the least, I have done my regular maintenance on this car.  I never waited for a problem.  But should a problem arise I never choose to “patch” the problem to get a few more miles out of it, I choose to FIX the problem.  Why? Because my goal is to pass this cool station wagon down to my first born child when she gets her license (this makes her cringe by the way).

Are you taking care of your body as well as you do your car?  Although we don’t pass our body down to our children the way we do our family car, in a way our care (or lack there of) will affect our children and grandchildren.  If we don’t take regular care of our body through proper feeding, exercise, thoughts and body-alignments we won’t be much fun as grandparents.  And if your body should fail you, do you take a quick pill to fix the problem, or do you look to actually FIX the real problem?

I want to be the sky diving granny, not receiving the obligatory Sunday nursing home visits from my offspring.  Because this is true you’ll catch me in the organic sections of the grocery store and taking my supplements daily.  I take the high quality omega 3 fish oil from Crossroads as well as our whole-food vitamin and pro-biotic.  Every body needs these three supplements daily, they are critical to our wellness.  Of course I “move” daily at work, do pilates, stretch and jog on occasion.  Positive thinking comes naturally to me and I wouldn’t miss a weekly wellness adjustment for the life of me.  I’ve been getting adjusted since I was seven, now is no time to skip an appointment! Should I have an ache or pain, I look for the cause.  I haven’t taken an aspirin or pain reliever in over 13 years.

If you need some help getting on the wellness band-wagon, we are here for you.  New workshops are coming up this summer and the Eat Innately Workshop is just around the corner on June 20th in Pembroke.

Perhaps it is too easy to have taken this fleshy home our soul inhabits for granted… but please don’t any longer.   Remember, a neglected body will sooner or later show the signs.
