These days you hear a lot about our food industry. Organic farming and foods have become a huge movement in our society along with buying from local farms. Almost every grocery store nowadays offers choices of organic foods. There are even organic and natural food stores popping up all over the place, whether they are larger chain type stores or a local cooperative store. So why is that with a growing a demand for organic natural foods are we hearing about growing rates of cancers, diabetes, and other diseases popping up all over the place? Have you ever stopped to really think about it?
Our agricultural system has been our own worst enemy in terms of our health. We all know without a doubt we need food to live. We all also know, at least to some extent, that in order to live a healthy vibrant life we need to eat healthy, vibrant, nourishing food. This means we need to eat foods that are rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals. We need to put down the fast food crap and pick our food from the land. If we are unable to do that (because obviously we all are not and cannot be farmers) then we need to eat food that was grown or raised in a healthy way. This means the food we should be eating is free of pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones, antibiotics, and it wasn’t raised in a tiny little cage that prevented movement.
I want to bring your attention to a movie called Food Matters. It is a documentary type movie detailing the state of our agricultural system and how it directly effects our health. This movie also goes into how we can, and people have, cured things such as certain types of cancers by cleaning up what they eat and adding vitamin and mineral supplementation into their life. (of course, the FDA and the medical societies will not tell you about this) As the movie states, “we are in a chronic constant state of malnutrition” within our society. The very soils we grow our food in have been depleted of essential vitamins and minerals; by genetically modifying foods, we are changing the chemical reactions that occur in our bodies as we digest the food. As rates of chronic diseases are growing, the only thing our healthy industry is doing is creating more pills to give people. A major shift is happening in society where people are tired of popping pills and want to know what lifestyle changes they can make to become healthier. Food Matters is shedding light on all this.
I strongly urge everyone to watch this documentary, and to watch it with an open mind. Crossroads Chiropractic Pembroke is showing Food Matters on Thursday March 22nd.
