Taking care of the human body is relatively simple. We need to provide it with everything that it needs and none of what it doesn’t. We must nourish it with good food and clean water, provide regular exercise, quality sleep, and positive thoughts. And if you’ve been reading this blog for a while now, you also know to keep the spinal column in the best possible alignment because it is your super highway of information between your brain and your body.
As we move forward into a New Year, we the doctors at Crossroads have made the commitment to dedicate our writing to the Foundations of Health: clean food, ample exercise, a positive mind, good sleep and maximized nerve flow. These are the building blocks to a vibrant body. Simple at first, but providing the raw materials to create sufficiency is only half of the equation.
We also need to focus on protecting our cells from damage. This can be a bit tricky! Lack of knowledge, conflicting research and environmental toxins beyond our control make our choices more difficult. For example, does sunscreen prevent skin cancer or do the chemicals in traditional sun care contribute to cancer? Further, could sunscreen contribute to vitamin D deficiency? To wear or not wear sunscreen isn’t such an easy decision after all. What about adding soy to my diet? Some experts say it’s good for us, others warn of the danger of its phytoestrogens. Are GMO’s safe to eat? Is 30 minutes of exercise three times per week really enough? Do I need to take vitamins? Should I get a flu shot with its dangerous chemical additives or just take my chances with the flu? Do I really need 8 hours of sleep?
