If you are a practice member in our offices, then you are most definitely acquainted with the “Kid’s Area” in both our Pembroke and Meredith locations. We have these areas because we care for a lot of families and children in our offices. Now, to our office this feels completely normal and beyond that, it is something that we strive for and are excited about. Many people when they first come into our office are surprised that we adjust not only kids, but new babies as well. Here’s the thing: the best thing you could do for your child or baby is to have it adjusted by a chiropractor.
All of us need to maintain our nervous function and spinal health from birth. Unfortunately, this does not happen for the majority of us (me included). The first time we can become subluxated is the birth process. There can be anywhere from 70-90 lbs. of pressure placed on a baby’s neck during the birthing process. Now think about this: if the baby is 7lbs then that would be at least 10x their body weight placed upon their neck. So if you were to weigh 150 lbs that’s like you having a force of 1500 lbs place upon your neck….a bad day, indeed. These forces the newborn faces can easily subluxate the child’s neck and especially the atlas (C1), the uppermost bone in the spine that is a ring around our brain stems.
The child, is not unlike you in that no symptoms need to be present for a subluxation to be present. However, if the subluxation remains undetected it puts a damaging stress upon the child’s nervous system and flow of innate intelligence that will lead to poor and compromised health, leading to a decrease in vitality and the full potential of the child.
Conversely, symptoms may well be present that many parents never suspected to be related to a possible subluxation and lack of innate intelligence and nerve flow. Symptoms like colic, digestive trouble, ADHD, and ear infections can all see improvement from adjustments. Ask Dr. Stephanie about her childhood experience with ear infections.
It is not just the birth process that can subluxate a kid, but also: tumbles, falls, learning to walk, sports, dance, stress, poor nutrition…..life! The big idea is that it is much easier to get and keep a kid well, then it is to fix a broken adult. The kids have been through less years of life, stress, trauma, bad nutrition, etc….with a kid you are starting from scratch, with a cleaner slate then an adult. This means that the adjustments will be more valuable. See, with an adult we have to work to undo years of abuse and lack of nerve flow, since the adult as a new patient was likely subluxated since childhood. A new baby’s adjustments will help repair, but will also move quickly to boosting. We aren’t playing catch up, but more maximizing innate intelligence which allows the child to reach it’s full potential and optimal health level.
So, the question is, why hasn’t everyone had their kid checked? Mostly, it is a lack of awareness. If your kids haven’t been checked, it is imperative that you get this taken care of. If you have family or friends with kids who maybe subluxated, be their resource and connect them to chiropractic info. The ability to improve our world starts with improving the future by taking care of our kids. You literally have the ability to change the future!
