What Is Your Hope For the Future?

What is our hope for the future? Do we plan on thriving or merely surviving? I’d wager we all want to thrive.  To do more than scrape by.  Just making it physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially, and healthwise by the skin of our teeth, seems to be the order of the day for most of us.  The question I have is this: why accept just making it?  Why not chase greatness? Chase our dreams? Imagine the ideal you, the ideal life, the vision that you consider perfection. Does your reality match your vision? Or is your idealization seem like an impossible dream?  I assure you, we can all be more than we think.  Maybe, not all your dreams can come true, like a 50 year old can’t become 25 again. But I’m sure some of your vision and hopes can be made real.  What’s stopping you?  Here are a few steps to get closer to your vision. Do these and everything in life will come easier.
  1. Get adjusted. Yes, I’m a chiropractor. Yes, I’m biased.  But I’m also staunchly pragmatic.  If you have subluxations, your nervous system will not function optimally.  If your nerve system functions less than totally then almost nothing else matters. Your body will wear out faster than it should and have more pain than it should.  It won’t use healthy substrates fully. Meaning: eat a healthy meal, your body has to process said healthy meal, but if your nerve system isn’t perfect you may not even fully utilize all the goodness of the healthy foods.  Everything you do to your body: food, sleep, medicine, supplements, vitamins, etc., has to be processed by your nervous system to be utilized by your body. You want this working, thus you want to be subluxation free.  To be subluxation free, you have to get adjusted.  Easy equation: healthy spine = healthy nervous system = healthy you.  Why is a healthy you important? Because this body you possess is the vehicle to accomplish want you want to in life….it can be a Gremlin or a Caddy…..your choice. Basically if your aren’t healthy, not much else matter. The most bang for your get healthy buck is getting adjusted.
  2. Make Priorities: I know you have to work, take care of kids, eat, bath, etc.  But outside of the “have-to’s”  how do you use your time? Ask yourself is the way I’m using my time moving me closer to my dreams or further away.   So this is easy. Imagine you dream of being a painter, hypothetically..  It’s the end of the day. It was a long day at work. The kids were cray cray.  You out them to bed. You feel like you want to pass out.  You plop down on the couch in front of the TV, turn on some Netflix….is this getting you closer to your goals.  Instead, what if you put the kids to bed and then paint for 30 minutes. You see a small change, but one moves you ahead and one keeps you trapped in a cage of stagnation.
  3. Make a Plan: you can’t get there from here, if you don’t know the steps to “there”.   Simply, choose what you want, honestly evaluate where you are and make a plan.  You may consider asking someone you know who has already figured things out.  Or perhaps ask your friend Google.  But imagine if you’re a couch potato who wants to be a marathoner.  You can either be frozen be “what’s my next step/how do I start” or you can ask a marathoner or look on the internet for “running for beginners” type stuff.  The point is, the knowledge is out there. Utilize it and get to your dreams.
  4. Ask if you really want it.  Finally, maybe you haven’t achieved your goals, because you don’t want that goal.  It’s the “he’s just not that into you” deal.  If you want to be fit, but don’t want to exercise most mornings, then do you really want to be fit? You dig? If you won’t make the sacrifice to achieve your goals, then you may not really want those goals.  The stuff we want, we do.  Just do a little honest self reflection and decide.
My hope is that your life will be what you want.  The bottom line is that no one is going to hand you your dreams and goals.  You must be your own advocate, your own biggest fan.  Don’t give in or give up.. Find what you sincerely want and set yourself up, with the best chance of success possible.
Sincerely, Dr. Graham
