We have some great people for patients in both of our offices. People who come to us for all sorts of reasons. When you boil it down though, most people come to us for one of two overarching reasons:
1. Pain (moving away from it)
or
2. Pleasure (moving towards it)
Let me explain:
A man comes with pain radiating into his legs and wants the pain to stop. He wants to move away from pain. Sometimes the destination isn’t as important as leaving your current location. In this instance, all this man wants is to get out of pain.
Another man comes in because he wants to be able to play golf again. He hasn’t been able to play golf for months because of a pain radiating into his legs. He wants to move towards pleasure. As it often is with life, this is a perfect example of perspective, another reminder that life is really in how we look at it.
So you came to us to move away from pain or you came to us to move towards pleasure. The fact is we can interact with either as chiropractors. Because regardless of which direction you’re heading, our job remains the same. However, I feel that before this becomes a discussion about pain there is one thing that I need to make clear for you: I care about your pain, but I’m not concerned about it.
Before you say, “What a jerk” let me go a little deeper… I care about your pain because I care about you and how you feel. I say I’m not concerned about it because it’s not really what we are working on. You see, pain will go away, it can be easy to manage. But my concern with the issues you bring to us goes a little deeper.
Sometimes the wires get crossed and many think we adjust a patient for neck and back pain. But to let you continue to think that is doing both you and chiropractic a disservice. We are not adjusting you for a specific pain or symptom because what you have is not a physical problem, but a power problem. Your body is like one amazing electrical panel. The brain sends the messages the way the electricity flows through your house. If you have a mouse nibbling on the wires you could go months without knowing there was a mouse in your house, let alone one chowing down on the wires. But then one day a light starts flickering. Is the light broken? Should we take it to the repair shop? No, you need to get rid of the mouse, repair the wire and restore power to that light. Pain is that light, that signal your body sends to tell you the power problem has gone on too long. This is why we adjust. We want to make sure the lights stay on.
So what’s a power problem with the body? A power problem is a problem with the nervous system. When you are subluxated your brain can no longer send its electrical signals out to the body. If the brain can’t exchange this electrical signal, then your body’s innate intelligence, which is your God given doctor inside that heals and regulates everything, can’t fully function. When this occurs breakdown and disease (and pain) occur. So as you are adjusted your power problem will resolve, which is most important, and a decrease in pain or increase in pleasure will then follow.
Now some of you may be saying, “Dr. Graham I get that, I’ve been to workshops, I read the articles, I’m reading your blog…” But I say this from a place of love and concern – I don’t know if we all are actually getting it.
You see, we still have folks getting flu shots and popping pills. How do these things heal you? How do they change you? Guys, these artificial methods choke off and cover your innate intelligence. They steal the function of your body. You must put your faith in your body’s only healing need: itself. Stop trusting a man made chemical.
I know we are all not getting it because we have great practice members who still haven’t had their kids, family, friends, and co-workers checked yet. But if you understand what I’m writing about then you can’t wait to tell your loved ones and coworkers about it. You own the secret of health. You know how to allow you full God given animation to act in all its glory and power.
If you understand this then you don’t dare shut that off with the artificial. I’m imploring you all to look deep within and know this truth: God has given you an innate intelligence that when allowed to function fully will heal you and keep you whole.
Chiropractic works because the body heals itself.
If you know this, take it to heart and act. Save your world. Throw your empty pill bottles in the Drug Jug, get everyone you care about checked by a chiropractor, put your faith in your body, in your Innate Intelligence.
My dear friends, the world is against you, tempering your full expression with television, drugs, poor food, etc. Stand tall and be bold. Our world needs you… yes, you. Don’t ignore this. We want everyone to know all these truths, but we can’t go where you go, into your schools, homes, work, churches. You must save your community; you have the ability and knowledge.
Remember we are always here. We love you and are proud of you!
In health,
Dr. Graham, Chiropractor
