Hi everyone!
Back from a short hiatus blogging. I hope you all are well. With summer ending, make sure you grab up that beach time, sunshine, and warmth. Drs. Stephanie and Denise, and I were able to experience plenty of that heat last week at our conference in San Antonio.
Now you may be shocked to hear this, but Texas is hot in July. I know, who knew? Seriously, though, it was way more humid than I would have thought. Even early in the morning the air was so thick you could chew it. Despite that we had a great trip. We missed serving you on the Thursday we were closed but we were happy for the chance to learn how to serve you better at the conference. You see, we do have fun on these trips, but the real goal is to become better able to serve you, our community, and our profession.
The conference was filled with long days of lectures, but we also got to get out a little. We saw the River walk, ate Mexican food, and went running on an awesome nature trail. Something strikes me every time I travel, though. It is the idea that everywhere I travel in the U.S is roughly the same. I mean besides climate and landscape. But in every city you can find a mall, a movie theater, and a main drag of road that will include some combination of the following: Best Buy, Apple Bee’s, McDonald’s, Borders/Barnes and Noble, Wal-mart, etc. I realized that every location has more to offer, but if you don’t dig, get off the main strip, you will only get the same homogenized experience. If you want the marrow and the soul, you have to go further, go out of your comfort zone. When you do you will be rewarded greatly with culture and vitality and the world around you will change and light up with the glow of infinite possibility.
Our lives are no different. If we are content to be spoon fed and plain, we can certainly do that. If we thirst for more, for greatness, we have to go further. The homogenized life cycle of work, TV, sleep, repeat will keep you looking alive, but leave you looking for more. This safe life will have your life looking like everyone else’s around you. It will leave you with a Best Buy, Apple Bee’s, et al. life. This can be okay, but I know deep down I thirst for more and that most of you do too! So let’s break the mold. Let’s agree to run, to plant, to create, to dream then do. Let’s decide to make plans and goals and then achieve so much that these plans/goals would no seem meager. Let’s no longer sit alone, isolated in the cold daze of the blue light coming from our TVs but instead steep ourselves in family and fellowship. I know this challenge is big, but I want the same. I’m not there yet either, but the point is…we can be.
Your health is no different. We can live the cycle of pill, sick, pill, sick, junk food, bad mindset, no exercise, stress, stress, pill, surgery, etc., etc., etc., till we die. Or we can jump off the merry-go-round and do something great. This is where chiropractic beckons you. Chiropractic asks you to not live the homogenized, sterilized life, but to trust in the inner intelligence God designed into you to provide all the healing you will need. This healing comes from above, down, and then inside, out. You see, the healing in you doesn’t require any outside help. It comes from your brain (above), to your spinal cord (down, inside), to every organ, tissue, and cell in your entire body (out). Typical, medicine occurs in the exact opposite direction, you take pills (out) and (try to correctly) affect the inside. This will never, ever give you true health, because a pill or potion can never provide the healing that your own body can. The fact of the matter is that our culture is quitting on grabbing health for themselves as people seem to accept waiting for breakdown, for surgery, for intervention that will almost always create more issues (remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch, right?). I plead with you to do the opposite and go deeper, be on the offensive not defensive: eat well, sleep, exercise, have a positive mental attitude, and keep perfect nervous system function through a subluxation free spine. We are excited to be on this journey with you and are thankful for the chance to be a part of your lives. We are looking forward to getting to do the same for the Lakes Region at our new Meredith office. Thank you all, you have our gratitude.
Sincerely, Dr. Graham, chiropractor
