A Doctor's Confession to the Capital Area

And why I still do what I do...

My name is Dr. Stephanie Mills.  I want to give credit where credit is due. So, perhaps a confession can help clear the air so there’s no misunderstanding. Before I talk about my confession, let me say a few other things first.

As a young girl, I suffered from chronic colds and ear infections. I was sick all winter. Sick for Thanksgiving, sick for Christmas. I was at the doctor’s for an ear infection on my February birthday every year.  By age 6, I was put on so many rounds of antibiotics that they stopped working. Instead I had to be given the “newest” antibiotic.  Who knows what all those drugs were doing to my growing body. In first grade I had surgery on my ears. Even that didn’t help.  My parents were at their wits end. But then someone convinced them to try chiropractic. After an examination of my spine, the chiropractor did an “adjustment.” I remember that it didn’t hurt. It actually felt good.  I got relief from the ear infections and fought off colds better than I ever had.  I became a healthy child for the first time ever!  It worked so well that I went to chiropractic school myself.

Now I keep my family healthy. The man in the picture is my husband, Brad. The bigger girl in the photo is our 7 year old daughter, Brooke. The little one is Emilee. Emilee was born naturally at Longmeadow Farm Birth Home–without drugs or unnecessary intervention. She’s almost five now and has never needed antibiotics or medications of any kind. Our girls are some of the healthiest kids in town. I keep their bodies strong and healthy with chiropractic adjustments. My husband and I have even chosen not to vaccinate them. We have more faith in the human body than most.

It’s strange how life is, because now people bring their children to see me when they’re experiencing chronic colds and ear infections.  And they also come to me with their headaches, migraines, chronic pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, ear infections, allergies, asthma and numbness in limbs just to name a few.  Several times a day patients thank me for helping them with their health problems.  But I can’t really take the credit.  My confession is that I’ve never healed anyone!  What I do is perform specific spinal adjustments to remove nerve pressure and the body responds by healing itself.  You can’t improve on Mother Nature – and I don’t even try!  I get tremendous results.  It’s as simple as that!

After graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic, in Davenport, Iowa, I returned home to Concord to share chiropractic.  In 200o I founded Crossroads Chiropractic as a center for health and wellness in the Capital Area.
