The Unicorn Outrage – Lessons For Us All

Dr. Jen
I’m sure by now, you all have heard about and seen more than a few pictures of the very limited Unicorn Frappuccino that came out recently. I’ll begin this blog with stating that yes, in fact, I did order and drink one (hey, I still have a 10 year old kid residing inside me!) and I actually liked it! (again, I chalk it up to the 10 year me and those kid-like taste buds). In the very limited time this Unicorn drink was out, it created an enormous outrage on social media and even in live conversations. I’ll share here a bit of the story of what transpired with me after I put out a picture of myself with one of these colorful, elusively named drinks. Within a day of…

Healthy Happy Spring!

Dr. Stephanie
We are a few days into our Spring 21 Day Cleanse.  Our cleansers are cleaning up their eating by eliminating dairy, processed sugar, most grains, soy and artificial ingredients.  They are eating lots of veggies, fruit, protein shakes and will soon add back lean fish, organic chicken and grass-fed meats to their diets. Even if you aren’t ready to dive in for a big shift in your dining choices, you can still make subtle changes with the foods and snacks you reach for each day.  Think real food: food that grew from the ground or walked upon it.  Grab for an apple, crisp veggies or nut butter on a banana instead of the sugary granola bar or soft drink pick-me-up in the afternoon. Below is an easy recipe that even…

Why Do You Get Adjusted?

Dr. Graham
Why do you get adjusted? If you're like most people it's because you hurt.  You have back pain or neck pain, etc.  This is an understandable reason to seek help.  And frankly, if you are going to seek this kind of help you could do much worse than chiropractic. In fact, it might be the best choice you could make in dealing with these kind of conditions.  That being said, what happens when chiropractic doesn't make it perfect.  Or what about, if you've tried everything: medicine, physical therapy, massage, chiropractic and anything else you can think of, yet you're still symptomatic.  I don't mean to be a Debbie-downer, but I want to take a minute to be realistic. Take this hypothetical situation: you're 38 years old, you played high school sports, have…

Refocus and Recommit

Dr. David
As we continue the new year, some of us will have already forgotten the list of changes we were going to make. We were going to exercise more, eat better, lose weight, spend more time with family, quit smoking, or get adjusted more regularly. It's hard to form new habits, to make those changes. Even if its beneficial to our overall health. It's important to have a goal, a direction to follow. You have to know what you are striving to achieve or you are just wandering around aimlessly. With a clear goal, you have a clear point of direction. So that if you have a momentary set back, you still know where you are headed. It's also important to not focus on past failures. Each day is a new…

Do You Complain?

Dr. Graham
Do you complain? No, seriously, do you? I think we all know the obvious answer: yes, we complain. We complain early and often. I'm not judging.  I do it, too.  I've just come to conclusion for myself, and perhaps you will feel this way about yourself, too:  I need to complain less.  I mean, honestly, we complain when it's too hot, too cold, too much snow, too many black flies, about our spouses/partners, out kids, our jobs, traffic, and on the list could go.  Why do we do this? Partly, to vent, to be heard, and partly out of habit.  Here is the problem, though: it's not healthy.  2017 is underway and many of us used the new year as a chance to reset our lives via resolutions. Have you…

Celebrating Children & Chiropractic

Dr. Stephanie
This weekend we celebrate our children under chiropractic care with our annual Kid’s Practice Member Appreciation Day held at Krazy Kids indoor party center.  We love how healthy and alive our chiropractic kids are, and there is no better place to run, jump, slide and bounce during a cold snap in March than Krazy Kids. In the spirit of celebrating pediatric wellness through chiropractic care, I want to share a research article with it.  It chronicles wellness chiropractic care given to correct subluxations in a 9 year old girl medically diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and hypothyroidism experiencing hypoglycemic episodes and sleep disturbance. She was evaluated by a chiropractor who located and corrected several areas of vertebral subluxation using specific, high velocity and low amplitude chiropractic adjustments on a frequent basis,…

Is It Just Back Pain

Dr. David
Many times patients will come in stating they just have low back pain. But quite often, its more than that. Though they only feel low back pain, there is more going on. And depending on how long or how recurrent the problem may be, it could be much more. It's not until we do a thorough exam that we may see what else may be happening. Low back pain is not always just low back pain. It could be a sprain/strain. It could be degeneration. It could be kidney stones. It could be degenerative disease. It could be an abdominal issue or a gynecological issue. It could be a pelvic tilt due to a short leg or pelvic restriction. It could be a loss of the curve in your neck…

Chiropractic in a Nutshell

Dr. Graham
If you have never had experience with a chiropractor, you may be curious about what we do, how we do it, and what our goals are. Simply, most people associate chiropractic care with back pain relief. This is fair because chiropractic has been shown in research, and case studies to be quite successful in caring for back pain. The truth is that the relief things, such as neck pain, low back pain, headaches, sciatica, and pain radiating to the extremities are just the external victories. It's obviously great for people who are suffering to feel better and as chiropractors we are excited to get to participate in helping people find pain relief. Yet, that being the case, it sells chiropractic a little bit short of its true goals and purposes. Our philosophy in a nutshell…

What Do I Do When I Get Sick?

Dr. Stephanie
I don’t usually give it much thought… NOT taking drugs is normal for me.  But in recent weeks, when it was obvious to everyone around me that I had caught this winter’s virus (stuffy nose, fever, sore throat, dry cough), I received quite a bit of well-meaning advice. “Don’t you take anything for that?”  “You should try Nyquil.”  “Maybe you need antibiotics.” I haven’t taken an over-the-counter painkiller, cold remedy or prescription pill in over 18 years.  And this little virus wasn’t going to break my streak. I’m the first to admit that at times drugs are necessary, life-saving inventions.  I’m thankful to live in the United States, where we have access to the best in medical intervention.  However, I’m also aware that every pharmaceutical and medical intervention comes with…
